HOW TO FIND A KEY TO A SONG

Hello, welcome to our piano tutorial blog.

Today we will be opening your mind to something most pianist find difficult which is finding keys to songs when playing the piano.

As a beginner facing issues like this, i will say it's a normal challenge. Sometimes finding keys might take time, it's a stage everyone will go through. All you need to do is to listen and play. 

If you are reading this post and you are facing this challenge, good news for you because after reading this post the battle will be over , I GUARANTEE you

At this point try to take away anything that will cause distractions and concentrate more on this topic.

Please for the short time, i want you to borrow me your ear, attention and attitudes.

Before we proceed, we will be doing an exercise for ear training.

Let make use of our private homes as an example to this.

Have you ever taught about what makes you identify the difference and how to tell which kitchen utensil falls on the ground. For instance, you are sleeping and a stainless plate or a breakable plate falls on the ground, what makes you identify the sound and the instrument producing the sound.

The answer is very simple. It because your ears are familiar with the sound of the instrument. Just as you can identify the voice of your friends, parent, relations etc.

Same goes to the piano

you must make your ears be familiar with all the note. I encourage you to begin with the major and minor scales.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR MUSICAL HEARING

The easiest way to help your ears are

1. Play a note on the piano and listen very well to the note

2. Try to produce the sound of the note using your mouth.

3. increase the pitch of the note either a semitone higher or a tone higher. 

4. listen very well to the note and try to produce the sound of the note using your mouth.

5. Play a broken chord e.g DO - MI - SO, or any other chord and try to sound the note using your mouth.

6. Do this all the time.

Doing this all the time will help you your ears improve more to musical sounds

So we will be introducing to you steps that you should use to find the key to a song.

STEPS ON HOW TO FIND THE KEY TO A SONG

1. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OFTEN.

Before finding the key to a song, first thing you have to do is to listen to the song often so as to become familiar with the voicing and the punches.

If you are a beginner i will sincerely advice you to listen to the song up to 5 times and sing along.

2. FIND A NOTE THAT RHYME WITH THE SONG

After listening to the song over and over, find a note on the piano that rhymes with the song after that check the next note from the one you found a in a semitone movement, to check if it also rhyme with the song. If no then try a tone movement, any of the movement must rhyme the note unless if the note you found at the first time is note correct.

DO - RE (TONE)

RE - MI (TONE)

MI - FA (SEMITONE)

FA - SO (TONE)

SO - LA (TONE)

LA - TI (TONE)

TI - DO (SEMITONE)

So anytime you notice a semitone movement, what should come to your mind is either MI - FA or TI - DO

if you notice a tone movement follow the above movement.

3. PLAY A MAJOR SCALE FROM THE SEMITONE OR TONE NOTE TO LOCATE THE ROOT.

After you have locate the note movement, assume that the is any solfa for instance if the note is a semitone movement, assume it to be MI or TI so as to complete the scale using a major scale movement to locate the root and that's all.

     The Diminished triad is also know as minor flatted fifth, it consist of  two  two minor thirds above the root. 

 Structure Of The Diminished Chords. 

The diminished chord are made up of 

1. The root note 
2. The flatted third of the root
3. The flatted fifth note

 The Diminished 7th Chords.
 The diminished 7th chord consist of two Tri-tones

There are three major structures of a diminish 7th chord.They include

1. C - Eb - Gb - A
    
   
2. Db - E - G - Bb 
   
    
3.  D - F - Ab - B

5 STEPS THAT MAKES YOU FAMOUS AS A PIANIST

 Hello, welcome to our piano blog, today we will be discussing five steps that makes you famous as a pianist. After all the researches I have done I found out there are many pianist  that are very good in playing the piano but they all have similar issues which is creating awareness (been famous). Few of them are well known while most of them are still in the dark .I spoke to one of them and he said:

 “how can I be famous when there are better pianists who plays better than I do”.

  I made him understood that it’s not all about being famous but what the world needs is what you have to offer (creativity), once this is accepted then you get the fame you desire.

Here is the chart chain process to be famous.

PERSON Step 1  → PERSON PRODUCT Step 2  →  PRODUCT  ACCEPTED  Step 3 →    PAID PRODUCT  Step 4

I want you to answer this few questions below:

  ⇛ Do you have style of creativity to offer to the world?

  ⇛  If your audiences are up to 10,000, do you know how to manage your audiences, to keep them wanting more of you?

          Remember as a pianist your product is your style and creativity of playing the piano.

For instance let take the Nike Company for instance, when you see the symbol of Nike (✔) you can easily identify its product.

         As pianist what do you have that people can easily identify your product? It could be that you can place different chords in a simple song or you can run different scales very fast and it could even be that you make nice song arrangement.

NOTE:  it could be anything you know how to do best.

        For instance when you hear of Cory Henry, the first thing that comes to your mind in describing him, might be the way he plays his chords and the speed he applies when playing his scales. Now that you know his style, i think you should have something in mind about yourself.

  Let me use myself as an example, I found out that what I love doing most is teaching the piano and that is what am offering to the world and I am well known for this. The same goes to you, once you find out you product (style) as a pianist. Today am going to introduce 5 steps to make you famous as a pianist.

There are many ways to advertise yourself to the world all you need to do is to follow this steps below.

 5 STEPS THAT MAKES YOU FAMOUS AS A PIANIST

1.      STOP TRANSPOSE ( be flexible on all keys)

As a pianist that wants to mentor people, the first step you should make on the piano is  playing on all the 12 keys perfectly. I found out that most pianists are not good on the 12keys in the piano which is very bad. If you think that playing all the magic on a key is what makes you a pianist, you are totally wrong. You've not started at all. You need to go back and perfect all the keys.

   Playing on all the 12keys gives you the confidence and boldness to play and speak out anywhere at anytime. Once you can play a song on all the keys people around will notice you and keep talking about you even the top and the young ones around you will talk of you anytime and anywhere. Let put a driver as an example; when you enter a bus and you find out that the driver only knows how to start the bus and control the steering  but doesn’t know how to control the gear and the brake, I know the way you would leave the bus won’t be the way you entered the bus. The same is applied to the piano, you won’t get enough audience even if you are a master on one key, so practice all the keys daily and you will become excellent on all keys. Like the saying goes practices make perfect.

2.      LISTEN TO SONGS AND SCORE AS MANY AS YOU CAN

 

One of the things I find so interesting in scoring songs is that, you can learn different techniques from different pianist which can lead to your own creativity. When you score different songs well, your playing will be worth listening to and will sound professional to the hearers. What helps a good pianist improve better is the time he spends on materials either in written words or video. When you can play different songs you get more people attracted to you from your local community. And playing those songs you score on all keys changes your mindset. Automatically you attract more audience from your performance.

3.      GET A MENTOR, SOMEONE THAT INSPIRES YOU

 


You can search for different pianist online either with Google or any search engine and look for any pianist you look forward to be like or sound better. I can guarantee you it helps a lot. Cory Henry posted on his wall about his music life, he said that he took time to study more from his mentor, so you can also develop the same attitude towards your piano lifestyle.

What you have to do is to get their materials free online or you can buy them e.g. you can buy good materials by Kelvin Coley on www.prettysimplemusic.com.

4.      MAKE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENT

   Making your own arrangement is a simple task. All you have to do is to combine what you know how to play in a limited time that someone can listen and be challenged to try it what they heard you played. That is your creativity at this juncture what you played will be what will make you famous.

  All you need to do is to get your style of playing video, record it and share with people. One of the best way you can share your video is on social media e.g Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter e .t .c. where you can even create a page where people can visit. 5.      EXPLORE

 

 Of course you know that you can’t stay in a particular  place to advertise your product. So you need to move from one place to another in other to attract more audience across your community. At this juncture you need to go for shows, programs, competitions, concerts e .t .c you can start by creating a band and give yourselves a unique name that is not known. You can make nice arrangement with your band and show it by performing it anywhere you go, it a platform to get started. 

At least by now you can get up to 10,000 fans across the world if you follow this steps.
