how to solo Igbo songs in a native way (exercise 15)

Welcome back,

During the last tutorial (exercise 14) we learn about How to apply the suspended chord or sus chord
Today we are going learn how to solo Igbo songs in a native way.
Hope you enjoy the last tutorial exercise 14☺😉? Yes i did! !
Very Good 👏

Let's get started!!!!!

Firstly what you need to know about the Igbo type of of play is that they have similar chord progression and they make use of simple chord progression, also the majorly deal with the major chords.
the south-east in Nigeria have a pattern which normally is the vamping of chord and their piano solo is quit different from the white way.

I made research and found out that the igbos pianist don't solo with one note, they solo with either  two notes or chord which i took time to know why. The main reason i discover is because of their intonation while singing. so when you solo with a note you might get the voicing but not the main intonation of the singer.

Below am going to show you tricks you can use to solo an Igbo songs to get the intonation of the singer perfectly,
NOTE: This tricks works for all Igbo's songs.

Below am going to show you chords o note you can use to replace the voicing when  soloing an Igbo song.

Voicing        Chords or notes use for soloing

DOH               SOH + DOH

REH                TIH + REH  or TOR + REH

MIH                DOH + MIH

FAH               REH + FAH

SOH               MIH + SOH

LAH              FAH + LAH

TIH                SOH + TIH

This can help you get the real intonation of an igbo singer.

Welcome back,

During the last tutorial (exercise 13) we learn about list of chords and their Note. Today we are going learn how to apply the suspended chord or sus chord .

Let's get started!!!!!
THE SUSPENDED CHORDS
The suspended chords or the sus chord is a musical chord in which the major 3rd of a chord is been replace by the perfect fourth or the major 2nd.
There are two types of sus chord

  • The sus 2
  • The sus 4
The sus 2 chord is a chord formed when the major 3rd of a chord is been replace by the major 2nd

MAJOR CHORD            SUS 2 CHORD

DOH- MI - SOH            DOH- REH- SOH

HOW TO APPLY THE SUS 2 CHORD

The sus 2 chord chord is applied before playing the fifth chords which is the SOH chord.
When playing a song and you want t apply the Sus2 chord before SOH, all you need to do is to divide the time you will use to stay on the soh chord into two and use the first time to play the sus 2 chord then use the second time to play the soh chord.
The sus 4 chord
The sus 4 chord chord is applied before playing the root chords which is the DOH chord.
When playing a song and you want t apply the Sus4 chord before DOH, all you need to do is to divide the time you will use to stay on the doh chord into two and use the first time to play the sus 4 chord then use the second time to play the doh chord.

How to play on all the 12 keys on the piano perfectly. (exercise 12)

Welcome back,

During the last tutorial (exercise 11) we learn about  CIRCLE OF FOURTH and  PASSING CHORD
Today we are going learn how to play on all the 12 keys on the piano perfectly.
Hope you enjoy the last tutorial exercise 11☺😉? Yes i did! !
Very Good 👏

Let's get started!!!!!

 NO MORE TRANSPOSING OF SONGS

Before we proceed you have t make up your mind to stop transposing from hence forth because the more you transpose is the more you get weaker on playing on all the keys.

HOW CAN I AVOID TRANSPOSING?

Yes, it is normal for pianist to have a favorite key they play comfortable on, but playing on all key is as simple as anything you can think of.

firstly, all the 12 keys on the piano has the same placement pattern.

example: when playing C major chord which is C E G and you want to move to the C#  major chord, all you need to do is to move a chromatic step forward and that is it you are on C#.
you can use the same pattern on other keys. it as simple as that.

HOW CAN I PLAY A SONG ON A NEW KEY?

When playing a song on a key u just learn, all you need to do first on the key before play a song are
  • practice the Major scale on the on the key and increase the speed.
  • identify the major and the minor chord in the major scale scale.
                    EXAMPLE:  DOH (MAJOR chord)
REH  (minor chord)
MIH  (minor chord)
FAH  (Major chord)
SOH  (major chord)
LAH  (minor chord)
TIH  (diminish chord)
  • Practice the 1-4-5 chord progression on the key.
  • Now you can now play the as simple as you can play it.
  • Practice the song and increase the speed as fast as you can so that your fingers will be able to master the key.
Once you do all this listed above and you keep on practicing, you won't have problem playing on all the 12 keys.

Hope you understood all we treated today?

CIRCLE OF FOURTH (exercise 11) PASSING CHORD

Welcome back,

THE CIRCLE OF FOURTH

Image result for pics of circle of fourth
There are many passing chords for any progression in a song all you need is to know how to apply it at the particular time. Most times the left hand play the major role especially in the circle of forth. The application of this technique make you sound advance when playing the piano.

Here are some passing note you can apply when playing a song.

  1. Circle of fourth

The circle of fourth is the movement of the fourth (4th) note chromatically from the the third of the root where you are heading to in the progression of the song.

example: am playing a song and am at LAH chord heading to the FAH chord, what am going to do is play a movement of fourth beginning from the Major 3rd note of the FAH chord which is LAH and play a movement of fourth after that the result i get from the movement will be:

LAH - REH - SOH - DOH - FAH
So that will be the result i get from the movement. below i will show you what my left hand plays when making that movement.

LEFT HAND         RIGHT HAND

LAH                         SO - TI - DO - MI

REH                         FEH - TI - DO - MI

SOH                         FA - LA - TOR - REH

DOH                         MI - LA - TOR - REH

FAH                           MI - SO - LA - DO

WOW..... did you try that movement above, it sound super advance. so that the interesting part of the CIRCLE OF FOURTH, it help you move easily to and chord of your choice.

    2.      TI  + FA +TI            RE + SO + LA + RE
    3.      DO + SO + DO         MI + LA + TI + MI
This is a very good passing chord to the root from any progression in a song.
    • when playing a song and you are moving from SOH to REH, you can apply this also.
           LEFT HAND                             RIGHT HAND
    1.       MI                                    SO + TI+ RE + SO
